Red, White, and Denim Collage
In this lesson, a worn pair of blue jeans becomes a reference to Old Glory, Americana, and Independence as a texture-filled piece of fabric art! Blue jeans were patented in San Francisco more than 140 years ago, and are still recognized around the world as a true American fashion staple. Despite the name - and much like the American cultural landscape - blue jeans come in a diverse variety of hues and textures. Often incorporating zippers, pockets, seams, labels, patches, and more, your favorite garment provides plenty of elements to cut, collage, and structure into a low-relief sculptural work of art! Plus, the work pays homage to Jasper Johns’ famous “Flag” paintings once embellishment is added using paint or markers - providing teachers with a lens into art history. From sea to shining sea, students from grades 3-12 will be enthralled with the possibilities in this lesson! New Website for AEA Purchasing

Change in Ordering Process
As we transition to a new website, on July 1, we will also be sunsetting the AEA Purchasing Marketplace. AEA Purchasing Marketplace was our online procurement and purchasing platform. While this shopping option is going away, rest assured our contracts are staying put! To continue using (and saving with) our contracts, simply contact the vendor directly. All of the necessary contract and vendor information is available on our website.
2023-24 IASL Award Books
There’s still time to order your school’s set of the 2023-24 IASL Award Books from Perfection Learning. The ordering window closes on August 31, 2023.
Paper Orders
Our summer paper order has closed. All deliveries are expected to be completed on or before September 1st. Our winter paper buy will begin in late November.
AEA Purchasing School Spirit Shows
Please mark your calendar for the 2023 AEA Purchasing School Spirit Show. It's the same event with two different locations: Wednesday, August 9 at the Sioux City Convention Center and Thursday, August 10 at the Waterloo Convention Center. This free event is designed for AEA Purchasing Members, offering four hours of education in the morning and a food show highlighting market basket items in the afternoon. We'll kick the day off with Family Feud Nutrition Style, including Civil Rights Training, followed by a visit from the Iowa Restaurant Association Education Foundation discussing Iowa student involvement in the ProStart Program, Chef and Registered Dietitian created recipes with sodium reduction strategies, and we will wrap up morning education with our keynote speaker, Jill Anderson, emphasizing changing "Should to Could''.
