Class is "In Session" for School Nutrition Professionals

Over 500 school nutrition professionals across Iowa are heading to food safety classes throughout June and July to ensure child nutrition program operations continue to maintain excellent food safety standards. 

The latest Center for Disease Control "Surveillance for Foodborne Disease Outbreaks - United States, 2017" identifies that in the year 2017, among the 761 foodborne disease outbreaks associated with food prepared at a single location, as reported, eight foodborne disease outbreaks (1 percent) were associated with schools.  366 foodborne disease outbreaks (48 percent) took place at a sit-down dining restaurant, 104 outbreaks (14 percent) occurred in a catering or banquet facility, 60 outbreaks (8 percent) occurred in a fast-food setting and 74 outbreaks (10 percent) occurred in a private home.  This report is available in the following citation:
